It’s a strange experience, watching a younger, more innocent version of yourself onscreen. So I relented, thinking perhaps that it would make for a sweet if unconventional mother-daughter bonding moment. A writer-director friend assured me that kids tend to filter out what they don’t understand, and I figured that it would be better if I were there to answer the uncomfortable questions. But my daughter insisted that her friends had already seen it, and she said she didn’t want to watch it for the first time in front of other people.

We recorded a conversation about it for the radio show “This American Life.” I’ll be the first to admit that ten is far too young for a viewing of “The Breakfast Club,” a movie about five high-school students who befriend one other during a Saturday detention session, with plenty of cursing, sex talk, and a now-famous scene of the students smoking pot. I don’t make a habit of revisiting films I’ve made, but this was not the first time I’d returned to this one: a few years back, I watched it with my daughter, who was ten at the time. For this edition, I participated in an interview about the movie, as did other people close to the production. We have Jack Taylor in a tiny role but he gave a memorable performance of that of a reserved n quiet professor with a hidden lifestyle.It’s hard for me to understand how John Hughes (in glasses) was able to write with so much sensitivity, and also have such a glaring blind spot. In one scene he barges rite on time n he is damn accurate with his shot. Christopher George does best at what he is, either a cop, a sheriff or a lieutenant. We have Paul Lawrence Smith (Bluto in Robert Altman's Popeye) found most of the times at crime scenes but he is never interrogated or termed as a suspect. In a scene Kendall and a sergeant leave earlier than the lieutenant but somehow the lieutenant reaches along with em. It is obvious that ther is some chemistry between Kendall n the woman he gave lift but in the end a lieutenant aka Christopher George (who is the real life husbad of the woman) touches the woman's cheeks n chin. The only thing Kendall did was give a lift. Ther is a kung fu guy doing kicks in the middle of the nite n later a woman thanks Kendall for saving her life but there was nothing shown regarding saving life. In fact the mother of the psycho in the initial scene is a busty milf. The arm severing scene in the lift is brutal n the film has lots of gore n it has plenty of boobs n butts but none of the babes is hot. The film started off very well n it cud have been a good character study of a psychopath but the makers reduced it into a mere slasher. I first saw this in the late 80s on a vhs and the opening scene terrified me then.
